Mitsubishi might really be making a mistake with how they’re marketing their vehicles. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, which, according to Clarkson (Jeremy, not Kelly) is the car to buy if you want a rally machine as the new Subie Impreza fails to impress. The price, however, is a bit stiff - the GSR version retails at $34,000, while the beefier MR version is just below $40K.
If you are looking for a car that may give you that street racer vibe, shelling out $40K for an Evo X is a tad expensive, especially if you have the 2009 Lancer Ralliart version available. If not having those 300 horses under the hood wouldn’t bother you, then the Ralliart is the car to buy. It packs a tamer 2.0L turbo that generates a still-menacing 235 horses.
Still, you get a Twin-Clutch-SST gearbox, AWD, a wicked sound system, satnav, sunroof, HID, and Bluetooth. And with the pricing speculated to just start at $27,000? Oh boy, start raising the question “Why buy an Evo?” Not final yet, but it might be enough to warn Mitsu of a potential branding and pricing disaster.
