General Motors LogoGeneral Motors has been mounting its North America losses and to address that, they offer lucrative buyouts to 74,000 workers - and that number, ladies and gentlemen, is the entire US hourly workforce.

Profit-earning is basic. Either you increase sales or cut costs. Since they are still selling big and yet incurring losses, they focus their attention to the other way - cut costs and we’re not talking about trimming the salaries of the top dogs here. It’s by buying out 74,000 workers. And the buyout offer is enough to bait those interested in some quick money. Payouts can reach up to $140,000 for the remaining GM workers represented by the United Auto Workers union.

But the sad part is, it’s not because they could afford to lose the workforce, it’s more of getting rid of the current force and hire new workers at a cheaper cost.

A few months ago, GM hired 25 accountants to try to address their $39B loss.
