The FIA tried to impose the new points system last season but that met quite a lot of opposition from teams and drivers alike. Now, they have ample time to impose the new system and made full use of it.
The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council just approved a new system will undoubtedly favor top finishers compared to the existing points system.
In the new system, only the top ten finishers will be getting points but compare to the old format, the point discrepancies wouldn’t be spare change. Finishers will be awarded points on a 25-20-15-10-8-6-5-3-2-1 scale. Finishing outside the top five would feel like not finishing at all.
With a lot of cars competing next season (26 slots), fierce competition will be expected. We just hope this inspires drivers to revert from being pansies like they’ve been for the past decade or so. We want more epic battles!
