Nissan 370ZSo what’s Nissan really up to? The Nissan GT-R has yet to hit American roads and yet buzz has started to shift to the upcoming 370Z. As far as what’s stated, the 370Z will get an engine displacement bump with it getting the 3.7L V6 from the Infiniti G37.

But now, reports say that Nissan is also gunning for a high-performance version of the 370Z with a V8 engine. No word yet if the engine will be taken from one of Nissan’s existing line (like the 4.5L) but Nissan has mention that it will most likely be a V8.

Nissan is targeting the end of the year for the 370Z to see daylight (or at least car show lights). In addition, the car will also be lighter by 220 pounds compared to the current 350Z. Choices of trannies to mate to the engine are a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Now this is shaping up to be really interesting.

Nissan 370ZThe jig’s up. And this is where we get to appreciate Web 2.0. Fresh Alloy forum has scans of the upcoming Nissan 370Z from a Japanese magazine. I just wouldn’t know if 350Z fans would like it but the headlights alone merit some scrutiny.

By the looks of it, there are some differences from the old(er) 350Z esterior. The new 370Z seems to have a steeper slope with the lines. The front grille and bumper is also tweaked, eliminating the emergency lights at the bottom corners, giving the grille a more aggressive look. The headlights also have this jagged look to it - pretty much like how Batman would probably shape his headlights. It now even has some grooves along the side as well.

We already have a few pieces of information regarding the 370Z. The +20 to the name means that it will be sporting the bigger 3.7L engine currently found in Infiniti G37 which brings an added 30 hp to the what the 350Z has. For a comparison of the looks, just view the head-to-head picture right after the cut.

Nissan 370ZA few months ago, word went around that the Nissan 350Z will be rebadged as the 370Z marked with the transition from a 3.5L of the 350Z engine to a 3.7L engine coming from the Infiniti G37. The increase in displacement would boost the number of horses to 330, 30 hp more than the 350Z.

Now, reports indicate that the 370Z will indeed push through and will most likely be featured in the Paris Motor Show later this year. Not much has been said about the styling but from what we see from sketches, it looks just a bit more sleek than the current 350Z. The car might be entering the market next year and will be sold as a 2010 model.

It really boggles the mind on why Nissan is making performance car after performance car. The new GTR is selling like meth in a junkie town and as far as performance goes, that car is quite hard to beat. I wonder what good will this upgrade on the 350Z line would do.
