Once you go Black, you’d never go back. No racial slurs meant for this one. But it does seem like that’s the case for the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 Black series. While the S has been Merc’s flagship car in its fleet (even if the CL class has exceeded it in terms of price, and the soon-to-be phased out SLR is its performance vehicle), the SL (sport light) series proved to be one of the most impressive Merc series. Especially if there’s the “AMG” and “Black” labels to it. Meaning it packs just a bit more oomph to the ride.

Now, Merc has just recently revealed the SL 65 Black. Forget the SLR for once. It’s soon to be phased out anyway. This SL 65 Black has got the style and (by the numbers) performance to possibly pickup the reigns from the SLR. Powering the car is the AMG 6.0L biturbo V12 dishing out a massive 670 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

Mated to the engine is a MG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS five-speed automatic gearbox that delivers power to the rear wheels. That power can propel the car from 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 199 mph. And that’s only because Merc has electronically limited the top speed. Freaking amazing. Also upgraded are the suspensions and brakes to handle this beast.

A limited run of 200 cars will be made. Price, definitely is only fit for a Saudi prince.

Mercs can always be associated to being posh cars. Even their cars with supposed racing pedigree do carry a sense of uppity demeanor typical to rich people. The SLR, for one, is one hell of a machine. It’s a beast, all right, but the way it looks isn’t savage at all.

So how can you make a Merc look even more posh? Encrust it with diamonds. And since the only thing that seems to be more priceless than diamonds is oil nowadays, you can just expect this level of flamboyance from people who have a lot of oil to spare.

This car belongs to Al Waleed who seems to believe that there’s no such thing as too much bling on his ride. So he decided to pimp it up by lathering on $4.8 M worth of diamonds.

Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG Edition IWCMany rich people would definitely argue that driving is a lifestyle. Well, that’s only true for those who don’t feel the rising cost of gas burn a large hole in their wallets. You definitely can’t complain about price at the pump if you roll up in a Mercedes-Benz, right? So what do these people concern themselves with? Why, time pieces (and other accessories) to match their cars of course.

Like this latest release from Merc - an IWC edition of the SL 63 AMG. So what does the Swiss watch maker have anything to do with cars? Well, you can ask, say Ferragamo what does his luggages have to do with Maserati. Still, if this is an excuse to create a spiffy version of an already great car, then why not.

The IWC SL63 AMG sports the magno Kashmir white finish with the AMG carbon kit with matte finish. Powering the car is the AMG-tuned 6.3L V8 dishing out 535 horses. The car sits on titanium gray double-spoke wheels. Stopping it are internally ventilated, perforated composite disc brakes as part of a multi-disc LSD.

And perhaps the best part (*cough*) is that buyers would also get a limited edition of IWC’s “Grosser Ingenieur” watch that features stainless steel housing measuring 45.5 mm in diameter. The wristband perfectly complements the vehicle’s concept.

Orders will be taken in by fall this year and deliveries will start in November. How limited is this limited edition? 200 units.

Mercedes SL65 AMG Black SeriesWatch out folks, Mercedes has gone bonkers yet again. With the end of the Merc-McLaren tie up spelling the demise of the SLR, Mercedes probably decided to pursue a car that could readily fill in the void through this car (among other possibilities, of course) - the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series. Why that opinion? It’s because this car generates 20 more horsepower than the SLR, that’s why. Why build a car which can be arguably better than your flagship?

The SL65 AMG Black Series is powered by the same 6.0L twin-turbo V12 engine found in the SL65 AMG but is refined and tuned to generate an increased output of 670 hp. It will also be mated to the same tranny found in the SL65 AMG but gets two sport modes with one featuring gear shift times of 250 milliseconds. So pretty much your gear changes are as fast as you can flick your hand.

0 to 60 is achieved in sub-4 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 198 mph. Still quick, even without breaking the 200 mph barrier. One of the factors contributing to its quickness is the use of carbon fiber to trim it 570 pounds less.

The SL65 AMG Black Series will debut next year with a price starting from $200,000.

Mercedes-Benz CLMercedes will be unloading a lot of stuff on us come next month at the Geneva Motor Show. They’ll be showcasing not just one or two new models. They’ll be showing us five new ones. Those that will be on the stands: the new SL, SLK, CLC, CLS and CL. Now that’s a lot of new cars.

No doubt that it’s the new SL that would be the highlight for Mercedes. A new entry-level SL 280. It’s got a 231hp 6-cylinder engine that propels the car from 0-62 in 7.8 seconds. Pretty respectable especially since this is an entry-level car.

Another car to be shown is the new SLK (which technically debuted in Detroit last month), making its European debut. The new SLK sports a new front and rear design and sports a more poerful V6 SLK 350 engine. Joining it is the new CLC Sports Coupe which is a total redesign, offering performance upgrades for handling, an uprated engine that now dishes out 184hp and fuel-efficiency bump of 10.8%.

The last two would be a CLS 280 with a facelifted front fascia that sports a few tweaks inside and is now powered by a 3.0L V6 producing 231 horses. Finally, we will get to see the CL500 4MATIC that features a 388 hp V8 engine.
