Oh sure, the world needs more crossovers SUVs. And Chevrolet contributes to what I’d call more GM hijinks with their new compact crossover – the Chevrolet Orlando concept – which they will be revealing in the Paris Motor Show next month.
The Orlando concept sports Chevy’s latest-gen 2.0L turbo-diesel. Since it’s an diesel engine with a relatively smaller displacement (compared to the other engines that can be found across their fleet), the car might boast improved fuel efficiency.
GM officials haven’t made any decision if this concept will reach production but come on, GM. Why put in efforts that cost time and money if you wouldn’t even make a ready profit for your effort. Not really a smart for a floundering company.
While there’s no arguing the practicality and possible appeal of this concept, I really don’t think GM is playing it smart with how they manage the new models they are developing across their divisions. They already have a whole lot of crossovers. Let’s see: Buick Enclave, Cadillac SRX, Equinox, Pontiac Vibe, and Saturn Outlook (might have missed a few more) and not to mention the similar Opel Zafira.
Sure, this Orlando concept is more of a people mover but I can’t see how the number of offerings they have for the crossover market would help their cause.
