Chery RiichFast-growing Chinese car manufacturer Chery has launched two new brands, Riich and Rely, each targeting a particular group of people. The naming system is quite literal: Riich is a luxury vehicle line aimed at, well, rich people. Rely, on the other hand, sees business use as its primary niche.

One of the confirmed vehicles for Chery’s new brands is the Riich G6. The entire range features engines built in-house, including a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that can push the car to 167 horsepower. There’s also a 191-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine available for the G6.

In line with its luxury theme, the car has a suite of high-end features: a rear-view camera, electric seats, electric mirrors, Bi-Xenon headlights, LED tail lights, and tire-pressure monitoring, among others.

The literal naming of Chery sub-brands has a precedent. Case in point: the Chinese carmaker has a commercial cargo vehicle line, which is appropriately named ‘Karry’. Of course, sometimes it doesn’t matter if the names are odd or literal, as long as the company produces great cars that can sell.

Chery A6 UK Sightings

Chery A6There have been confirmed sightings of the Chery A6 coupe near the Norfolk headquarters of Lotus, signaling that the Chery UK launch is entering the final stages and suggesting that Lotus is helping out the Chinese automaker make the last adjustments to the car.

The new Chery A6 is built on an all-new modified platform that was designed to meet European specifications, especially when it comes to crash tests and other safety requirements. Chery will be basing future sedans and compact SUVs on the same platform.

The UK version of the A6 will reportedly sport a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a possible 3.0-liter V6 in the works, both of which will comply with the emission requirements set by EuroV.

Chery is set to launch in the UK market sometime later in 2009, in line with the company’s intentions to grab a foothold and be a significant competitor in Western markets.
