The pre-Paris Motor Show unveilings and previews are picking up again as we’re ready to close out September. Audi just released pics and spec details for the the new Audi S4 saloon and estate. Being the high-performance version of the A4, this car sure packs some punch.
For starters, Audi decided to retire the old 4.2L V8 engine (produced 339 bhp 302 lb-ft. of torque) for a smaller supercharged 3.0L V6 that produces 329 bhp and 325 lb-ft. of torque. It’s interesting why they opted for a smaller displacement engine and lose 20 horses. Still, the added torque helped shaves off 0.5 seconds from the 0-62mph time now at 5.1 seconds. Top speed for the S4 stands at 155 mph which is electronically limited. Transmission choices come as either a six-speed manual and a seven-speed twin-clutch DSG.
The S4 is also equipped with the latest Quattro four-wheel drive. Under daily driving conditions, the system channels 60% of the power to the rear wheel. The car also gets the Active Sports Differential (an adaptive rear-diff system) which manages torque vectoring allowing the car to put independet power to any one of the four wheels.
As for the eco-factor, the new V6 is cleaner and more efficient than the larger V8, returning 29 mpg and is supposed to emit lower C02 than the old one.
As for the styling, the S4’s contour really hasn’t been changed though it now sports a more aggressive fascia, a bigger rear bumper and alloy wheels. THe S4 will hit the UK market next spring and would do damage in the amount of £36,000 for the saloon and around £37,500 for the Avant.
