BMW realized that this world doesn’t need SUVs anymore and decided that the hulking X7 (planned to go head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz GL and the Lexus LX and perhaps the Audi Q7) will not see the light of day.
The project was supposed to be an expanded version of the X5, designed to be a seven-seater. However, amidst the oil crisis and world economy, prompting BMW to halt the X7′s development as was indicated in the company’s financial report.
With the abrupt change in market trends, we can see how automakers are also swerving directions as to where they are headed with design and development. Personally, I was never a fan of SUVs myself so the news didn’t have much bearing for me but seeing some acquaintances ditch their hulking vehicles for smaller ones and news bits like as these serve as a reaffirmation of the paradigm change that has struck the market.
