I never thought the day would come when “most fuel-efficient car ever” could be associated to any US automaker’s model. While not necessarily the most fuel-efficient car in existence, the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic is Ford’s best gas-sipper. Coming from a place where gas-guzzling used to be tradition, building a 64-mpg car is quite an accomplishment.
The ECOnetic comes with a 1.6L Duratorq TDCi engine producing 89 horses which pretty decent enough for daily driving. Just don’t think of racing this car since it can only go up to 100 mph and it reachers 0-62 mph in 12.3 seconds.
Featured in this month’s British Motor Show, the Fiesta ECOnetic will go on sale in Europ this year and will be flanked by fellow ECOnetic versions of the Focus and the Mondeo. Two bad that, despite Ford being a US company, the Fiesta will not be coming stateside. At least until further notice.
I think it will be a hit in Britain, since it’s low CO2 emissions make it ideal to chop off some of the road tax that London imposes on its motorists.
