If you missed the last Top Gear episode, go check it out over at BBC. Hope you’d be able to watch it on iPlayer.
Anyway, if you live elsewhere, the show’s main feature is on the electric car developed by the Top Gear Technology Center which they built to rival the G-Wiz. The car, dubbed the Hammerhead-I Eagle Thrust, is powered by an electric motor from a milk float, a diesel generator sitting inside an aluminum sheet shell atop a TVR Chimaera chassis.
Part of the segment shows the Stig leaving the car over at Autocar for some third-party impartial testing. Check out some of Autocar’s takes on TG’s EV after the cut.
Performance
“We failed to crack 60mph. In the end it reached 50mph in 16.6sec and ran out of juice at 55mph, making it the slowest car we have tested this century.”Ride and handling
“The Eagle i-Thrust rumbles along, its bodywork flapping in the wind as the 2CV tyres try their best – and occasionally fail – to prevent the body panels from rubbing on the floor.”Design and engineering
“There are so many contributory factors to its technical make-up that it could, in fact, be more accurately described as a freak.”Buying and owning
“As Daimler-Benz discovered over a century ago, you’ve got to start somewhere before you can progress.”Verdict
“It’s impossible to regard the i-Thrust as a success.”

uh, Jeremy, Richard, James, forgive me for saying this but this is the worst-looking, and worst car there ever is. and in my point of view, it’s probably all your fault (the presenters) that the generator killed Janet Stig Porter, the fact that a fly is more pleasant to look at, and that the suspension is, well, just not fit for a hybrid. But if someone is capable of making a car worse than this, i will mail to Top Gear and tell them to give you 5 dollars. And if you do, congratulate yourself by buying a cheeseburger.
No offense, Top Gear Team. Don’t make this a bad comment, but this is the truth.
Again, no offense.

The Eagle Ham Thrust (as Jeremy Clarkson calls it) represents a new step in automotive engineering. It is one of the greatest electric cars ever, better than a G-Whiz and golf cart. It has very low running costs, and even better, it is very cheap to replace parts. It features three abreast seating, an observatory for the middle passenger, and a diesel generator to recharge the batteries. And best of all (in Clarkson’s opinion) it has a mustache on its front.
