A lot of auto manufacturers today are giving a lot of attention to giving drivers and riders that “silent ride.” And you’d have to say that they’ve been doing a pretty good job for the past few years.

Audi 8Enter Audi 8. Not much has been changed in its outside looks (which are limited to front grille, door mirrors, LED rear lights and alloy wheel designs). However, Audi has put in a lot of work to make it to be the most quite car in its class. Aside from that Audi is also installing safety features in the A8 with lane change warning systems and cameras to help drivers see in the blind spots when shifting lanes. The new Audi 8 is set to come out in October.

I’m not really sure with the premium given to silence. While we, in the 21st century, acknowledge that noise is considered as pollution, having a car emit some sound does have a practical purpose especially for blind pedestrians. Some groups have already raised their concerns about quiet cars (particularly hybrids) since people may not notice their approach especially when cars approach from outside their lines of sight.

In any case, I believe that as a driver, you just have to look out for pedestrians. Simple as that. I mean, just take all the safety features being integrated in cars today. Those should leave you looking nowhere else but the road.
