Chevy’s midsize sedan - the Malibu just got the price tags for its 2008 line. The MSRP for the base LS model is pegged at $19,995 and its hybrid incarnate at less than $3,000 at $22,790. Now amazingly, this price tag is a lot lower than what you’d expect for a car its size and features making it appealing to those currently in the market for practical sedans.
Air bags (front and side-impact, six in all), ABS, traction control, security, navigation, airconditioning and a satellite radio all come as standard for the Malibu. These luxuries don’t really come as standard in most car makes.
Interestingly, for the power side you get a choice between a 2.4L 4-cylinder capable of 169hp and a 3.6L 6-cylinder with VVT dishing out 252hp. Decent number of horses but somehow dismal fuel efficiency with the 2.4L getting 30 mpg highway, 22 city and the 3.6L 26 mpg highway and 17 city. At least there’s an alternative for greenheads. The Hybrid features a 2.4L capable of adding 2 mpg to the 2.4’s ratings.
The lineup also includes the 1LT and 2LT trim levels and the big kahuna LTZ. MSRPs are as follows: 1LT is $20,955; 2LT, $22,635 and the LTZ, $26,995. An additional $650 for destination is charged for all. The car formally hits showrooms this November.
